December 26th
The Rev. I. Dewayne Johnson, 89, of 411 Toby Rd., Kersey, died on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born March 10, 1923 in Toby, a son of the late Victor C. and Daisy Moyer Johnson.
On May 20, 1951 in Brandy Camp United Methodist Church, he married Ardith Trumbull
Johnson, who survives.
Rev. Johnson was a member of the Western PA Conference of United Methodist Ministers, having served fi ve charges over the years, including Haze, Summerville, Rockwood, Tarrs, and Mahaffey.
December 25th
52-year-old Randy Lee Poole, of Tidioute, has been arrested and charged with burglary and criminal homicide following the Dec. 20 murder of Kathleen Sweeney in Deerfield Township.
As Christmas Day festivities wound down, storm warnings ramped up, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a winter storm warning for Elk, McKean and surrounding counties Tuesday.
After a less-than-'fruit'-ful experience, the Elk County Catholic High School Band Boosters are encouraging area residents who purchased citrus fruit from them that did not meet the previous year's quality to contact them.
Goldie May Rearick, 87, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Byrnedale, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at Elk Regional Health Center after a short illness.
She was born Aug. 5, 1925 in Plum Twp., the daughter of the late James Edmond and Lessie Irene (Harkleroad) Kaufman.
On Aug. 27, 1946, she married William P. C. Rearick, who preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1985.
Mrs. Rearick was born and raised in Plum Twp. and came to Bennetts Valley in 1966. She was a homemaker.
Donald F. Dippold, 80, of 114 Woodland Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly at the Elk Regional Health Center on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2012.
He was born April 22, 1932 in St. Marys, son of the late John A. and Gertrude A. Wendel Dippold. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Catholic schools.
On June, 13, 1953, he married Yvonne G. Read in the Sacred Heart Church. She preceded him in death on May 17, 1997.
Mr. Dippold was a retired employee of Northway Trucking in Port Allegheny and was a former employee of Powdered Metal Products, where he worked for 37 years.
December 23rd
Thelma May Morehead, 72, of Maidsville, W.V., formerly of Mt. Morris, Pa., died at 10:19 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, at home.
She was born Tuesday, August 20, 1940 in Yatesboro, a daughter of the late Dorsey VanHorn and Berdella Goldstrohm VanHorn.
On June 6, 1959 she married Gary L. Morehead Sr., who preceded her in death on October 16, 1993.
Mrs. Morehead was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God in Mt. Morris. She loved spending time with her family and was a homemaker.
Franklin A. "Frank" Metzler, 85, of Bucktail Trail, St. Marys, died of cancer on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center following an illness of the past year.
He was born July 3, 1927 in Harrisburg, a son of the late Franklin Metzler Sr. and Beryl Lavanture Metzler.
On May 31, 1981 in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Emporium, he married Sandra Kellner Metzler, who survives.
