Nearly a week after winning the Elk County Girls' Holiday Basketball Tournament, the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders were back in action as they defeated the Sheffield Lady Wolverines 61-39 at ECC on Friday night.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch basketball team suffered their first District 9 League loss of the season Friday night as the Bradford Owls held on to defeat the Dutch by a 51-43 score at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
William W. Thompson, M.D., 89, of 314 South St., Ridgway, died Friday morning at Elk Regional Health Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Knox, son of the late David R. and Veronica A. (Dougherty) Thompson, both educators in the Elk County School System. He married Alice Marie DeVoge on July 26, 1952. She survives.
RIDGWAY - A Brockport man jailed on drug and weapons charges was granted a bail modification in Elk County Court Thursday, effectively freeing him from the county jail and turning him over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals, who had lodged a federal detainer against him.
Public outcry from pet owners whose dogs have become ill or died after consuming chicken jerky treats imported from China is on the rise. Numerous online petitions, advocacy groups, chat forums and Facebook groups have cropped up within the past year, with their efforts aimed primarily at having the treats removed from stores.
