Richard L. Young, 87, a resident of Highland View Health Care, Brockway, and formerly of 1168 Windfall Rd., St. Marys, died on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Highland View.
He was born June 29, 1926 in Huntington, W.Va., son of the late Charles and Lida Hall Young. He was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He had been a resident of St. Marys since 1966 and was a retired employee of Pure Carbon Company.
On Dec. 13, 1958 in Huntington, W.Va., he married Geraldine P. Powell, who preceded him in death on July 9, 2013.
Local filmmaker Sean Perry takes his latest step in his professional journey on Saturday night with the premiere of his latest film, "Alive and Unburied." This will be the fourth premiere Perry has held in his career, with the latest being last yearâ€™s "Diamonds are a Conâ€™s Best Friend."
According to Perry, his newest production "tells the story of three high school kids who witness a horrific train crash that releases a mysterious chemical amongst their hometown of Kane."
Costumes by Mary, the areas newest Halloween headquarters, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday afternoon. Attendees at the event each donned a costume of their choice for the photo. Members of the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce along with family members and friends of owner Mary Jin dressed as characters from the Wizard of Oz along with a witch, a unique gorilla carrying a man in a cage costume, super heroes and an adult themed costume.
The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors approved several personnel items during their recent meeting.

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch soccer team recorded a 3-0 victory over the visiting Smethport Lady Hubbers on Wednesday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field. The match was also senior night for the Lady Dutch.
Elk County Catholic senior Elliott Struble qualified for the PIAA Golf Championships by placing fourth in the West Regional held Wednesday at Tom's Run Golf Course at Chestnut Ridge Golf Resort in Blairsville.
Struble finished with an 18-hole total of 36-37-73 which was good for fourth place.
