Area firefighters were reportedly battling a large structure fire at 1157 River Road in Byrnedale that reportedly broke out around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. Bennetts Valley Ambulance, Elk Company 3, 5, and 1 all responded to the scene.
Â The Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday evening in a tough match against Brockway in the D9 quarterfinals played under the lights at Frank Varischetti Field.
Chester C. Kasmierski, 69, of Ridgway died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at Elk Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 19, 1944 in Johnsonburg, the son of Charles and Theresa Zawacki Kasmierski. He married Carol O. Bjorkquist. She preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 1999. Mr. Kasmierski had been employed at Ridgway Color for over 30 years and later at PASI. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
RIDGWAY â€“ The recent 16-day federal government shutdown had little effect on the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission as officials for the reimbursement-based organization were prepared for the duration.
Elk County Catholic's Elliott Struble medaled at the PIAA Class AA Golf Championships by placing eighth. The two-day tournament was played at the Heritage Hills Golf Course in York.
Struble finished the two-day tournament with a 78-78-156. In Tuesday's final round, Struble shot a 39-39-78.
The fifth seeded Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders traveled to Curwensville to take on the fourth seeded Lady Tide on Tuesday evening in a D9 quarterfinal matchup played under the lights at Riverside Stadium. Going into the match, the Lady Crusaders had not lost in their last 13 games, and they extended that streak to 14 with a 3-2 victory over Curwensville.
