For the second year in a row the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch and Bradford Lady Owls met in the semifinals of the District 9 Class AA girls soccer playoffs, and once again the game ended with Bradford advancing with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team closed out their regular season with a 3-0 victory over the Johnsonburg Ramettes on Senior Night at the ECCHS gym Thursday night.
The Lady Crusaders took the first set by a 25-11 score. They took the second set 25-15 and won the third set 25-14 to win the match 3-0.
WEEDVILLE â€“ A fire broke out late Wednesday night at 1197 River Rd. [state Route 555] in Jay Township and destroyed a single story residence.
The occupants are listed as Dennis L. Celinski, 66, of Weedville, and Curtis L. Piszenski, also of Weedville. They were home at the time of the fire and escaped uninjured.
Cynthia Simchick and Tina Pistner of St. Marys have teamed up to open Cyntina's Treasures Gift Shop, a small shop located inside the Pistner residence located at 153 Fern Ln.
The small, quaint shop offers an array of handmade items such as wreaths, flower arrangements, candles, jewelry and scarves, as well as some retail pieces as well.
"It's a fun shop," Simchick said.
RIDGWAY â€“ Traffic accidents involving elk pose a real danger to area residents. Although many think of the elk as an elusive animal, they frequent the roadways, particularly in autumn which is their breeding season.
Recently, PennDOT officials placed two life-size elk cutouts on the PennDOT property in Ridgway in order to show just how big these animals really are.
