Lady Crusader soccer edges Punxsy 1-0

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders kept their winning streak alive on Monday afternoon by edging the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks 1-0 in a match played at Benzinger Park. ECC has now won eight in a row after dropping their first five games.

Lady Dutch soccer shuts out Smethport 4-0

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch soccer team improved to 7-6 on the season with a 4-0 victory over the Smethport Lady Hubbers Monday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field.

Crusader soccer loses to Punxsy Chucks 4-1

 It was a chilly and damp night at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Kersey on Thursday as the Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team took to the field to battle a familiar foe in the Punxsutawney Chucks, a team they had just played two weekends ago. Punxsy had won that contest 5-2 and the Crusaders were hoping to avenge the loss, but in the end the Chucks once again prevailed, this time by a score of 4-1.

City Hall approved as new polling location

St. Marys City Hall, located on LaFayette Street, has been designated as the new polling site for the city's ninth ward residents. The former location was at the Comfort Inn, located on the Million Dollar Highway.
On Monday evening members of council unanimously approved the request submitted by the Elk County Board of Elections. The new change will take effect for the Tuesday, Nov. 5 municipal election.

DDCC performs at Equimania Horse Show

April School of Dance's competition company, DDCC, had the honor of performing in the Equimania horse show in Sykesville on Sept. 7. Directed by Pam Buterbaugh, the show encompassed choreography performed by both horse and dancer. DDCC performed in a military tribute to fallen soldier, Chris Louden, while his mother Sue Louden spoke beautifully of her son.

Two small truck fires in St. Marys

ST. MARYS – Corporal Greg Agosti, a fire marshal with the Pennsylvania State Police reports investigating two different tractor-trailer fires occurring less than 24 hours apart in St. Marys.
At 11:51 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, members of the Crystal Fire Department responded to DeLullo Trucking Company at 1022 Delaum Rd. for a fire that reportedly destroyed a 2006 Peterbilt truck tractor. Less than 24 hours later, the Crystal Fire Department was called at 8:48 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 to W & W Sons Contractors, Inc. for a small fire that damaged at 1996 Peterbilt truck tractor.

Carmella D. Carnahan

Carmella D. Carnahan, age 80, of Oak Street, Johnsonburg, died at home Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 4, 1933 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Sisto and Elizabeth (Allegretto) Cicuzza.
She married Charles T. Carnahan in 1954, he preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2008.

Donald D. Smith

Donald D. Smith, 77, of DuBois, died early Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 22, 1936 in Penfield, son of the late George R. and Rebecca D. (Sylvis) Smith Jr.
He was a graduate of Huston Township High School and received an associate degree from Penn in insurance/finance. He served in the Army and Army Reserves from 1959-1965, achieving rank of sergeant.
