Lois (Storrar) Kneidel, 61, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.
She was born May 6, 1952, daughter of the late Christie ‘Crip’ and Hazel (Severance) Storrar, of Wilcox, who survives.

Joseph M. Sorge

Joseph M. Sorge, 89, formerly of 268 Euclid Ave., Ridgway, died Monday morning, Nov. 11, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born Feb. 10, 1924 in Ridgway, son of the late Frank and Albina (Lupilo) Sorge. He married Kathleen M. Gerg on July 5, 1947 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Kersey. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2009.

Outgoing school board members honored

Long-term school directors are being honored across the state by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) during local school board meetings. This includes three outgoing members of the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors recognized during Monday evening's meeting as they conclude their terms on the board.

St. Marys holds annual Veterans Day ceremony

It was a chilly and blustery morning on Monday, but that did not stop a number of area residents from making their way to the Diamond for the annual Veterans Day Memorial Service, which began promptly at 11 a.m.
Though the day was dreary and overcast this year, unlike last year which saw sunshine and blue skies, Master of Ceremonies Victor Straub began his remarks by commenting that at least it was not precipitating.

Straub reflects on the meaning of Veterans Day

Victor C. Straub, a retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col., not only served as the master of ceremonies for Monday morning's Veterans Day Memorial Service on the Diamond but also took a few moments to offer a brief reflection on the meaning of Veterans Day during the program.
"Veterans Day is a day for more than simply remembering," Straub said. "It's a time for considering what our veterans of the nation's wars from the Revolution down to the present have meant to the preservation and enhancement of our national and individual freedom and independence."

Elk Catholic volleyball eliminated by Bishop Carroll 3-0

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated 3-0 by the Bishop Carroll Lady Huskies in a PIAA Class A quarterfinal match played at Punxsutawney Area High School. Bishop Carroll recorded set scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-17 in the victory.
