FOX TWP. â€“ In the midst of all the excitement surrounding this yearâ€™s EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament, Root Sports anchor Rob King reminded the athletes participating in this yearâ€™s event that every member of a team contributes in some way to that teamâ€™s success.
Daniel E. "Squeaky" Miller Sr., 64, a resident of Highland View Health Care in Brockway, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 following a brief illness.
He was born May 18, 1949 in Ridgway, a son of the late Lawrence and Sophie Flacinski Miller.
Mr. Miller lived most of his life in Elk County, with the Miller homestead being located in Wilcox. He worked for several years at Motion Control in Ridgway and at St. Marys Pressed Metals. He enjoyed hunting, working, remodeling houses and working on cars.Â He also had a great love for dogs and eagles.
John J. Boschert, 54, of 424 German Settlement Rd., Ridgway, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013.
He was born April 11, 1959 in St. Marys, a son of Anna Carlson Boschert of St. Marys and the late John J. Boschert, who preceded him in death on March 29, 2013.
On Sept. 24, 2004 in Ridgway, he married Jane Woelfel Boschert, who survives.
The Elk County Catholic Crusaders will meet the Johnsonburg Rams tonight at 8 p.m. at St. Marys Area High School in the championship game of the county championship game of the EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament.
The Crusaders were able to use a strong first half to defeat the Dutch. Elk led 21-13 after the first period and 44-20 at the half. The Crusaders outscored St. Marys 26-21 in the second half to record the win.
The EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament got underway with an exciting matchup between the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch and Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders at 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon at the SMAHS Dutch Oven. Though the Lady Dutch led most of the way, the Lady Crusaders were able to battle back at the end and rally for a 45-43 victory. Elk Catholic meets Johnsonburg tonight at 6:30 p.m. for the county title.
