The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team successfully defended their Elk County Girls' Holiday Basketball Tournament by defeating the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 44-34 score in the championship game.

The Lady Dutch had three players in double figures Friday afternoon in the consolation round between the county teams in the EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament on Friday afternoon as St. Marys overcame a slow start to down the Ridgway Lady Elkers, 51-27.

The Rams claimed the Elk County Holiday Tournament for the second straight year with a 64-43 win over Elk County Catholic Friday night at St. Marys Area High School.

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen were defeated 64-42 by the Ridgway Elkers in the consolation round between the county teams in the EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament on Friday afternoon at the SMAHS gymnasium.

Daniel E. "Squeaky" Miller Sr.

Daniel E. "Squeaky" Miller Sr., 64, a resident of Highland View Health Care in Brockway, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 following a brief illness.
He was born May 18, 1949 in Ridgway, a son of the late Lawrence and Sophie Flacinski Miller.
Mr. Miller lived most of his life in Elk County, with the Miller homestead being located in Wilcox. He worked for several years at Motion Control in Ridgway and at St. Marys Pressed Metals. He enjoyed hunting, working, remodeling houses and working on cars. He also had a great love for dogs and eagles.

John J. Boschert

John J. Boschert, 54, of 424 German Settlement Rd., Ridgway, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013.
He was born April 11, 1959 in St. Marys, a son of Anna Carlson Boschert of St. Marys and the late John J. Boschert, who preceded him in death on March 29, 2013.
On Sept. 24, 2004 in Ridgway, he married Jane Woelfel Boschert, who survives.
