The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team used a 13-2 advantage in the third quarter to defeat the Kane Lady Wolves by a 55-45 score Monday night at the ECCHS gym.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestling squad finished in first place in their third annual St. Marys Kickoff Tournament on Saturday at the St. Marys Area High School, taking the top spot for the second year in a row.
The Dutchmen finished with 196.5 points in the eight team tournament. Coming in second was Youngsville with 153 points, followed by Cameron County 148, Port Allegany 134, Southern Huntington 106, Oswayo Valley 67.5, Wellsboro 43, and St. Josephs 25.5.
Randall N. "Randy" Bauer, 41, recently of Greenville, S.C., and formerly of St. Marys, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 following a short illness.
He was born Jan. 7, 1972 in St. Marys, a son of Dennis N. and Joyce Nekuza Bauer, of St. Marys.
St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney recently met with superintendents from throughout Elk County to discuss the start date of the 2014-2015 school year.
The choice which best fits SMASD programming entails holding two in-service days on Friday, Aug. 22 and Monday, Aug. 25. The first day of school would start on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the last week in August.
Family Life presented "The Gifts of the Magi" at the Red Fern Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the Red Fern. Friday and Saturday nights were a dinner theater while Sunday afternoon saw patrons have dessert before the show.

Clair G. Dippold, 80, of 185 Center St., Elk Towers, St. Marys, and formerly of Schissle Street, died early Friday morning, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 7, 1933 in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph and Josephine Kraft Dippold. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools. He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company.
Mr. Dippold was a member of the St. Maryâ€™s Church. He was a very religious person to his faith.
The results of the EQT Energy Classic "Lucky Lip Sync" video contest were announced at 6 p.m. on Friday night, and Elk County Catholic High School was named the victor of the $500 first place prize with their rendition of the Christmas song 'All I Want For Christmas Is You.'
Ridgway Borough Council on Friday afternoon voted to advertise their 2014 budget proposal which features no tax hike.
A complete copy of the entire proposed 2014 budget is available for public inspection at the borough office under normal business hours.
Over 350 parents participated in the St. Marys Area School District food service survey, in hopes to obtain data to improve food services.
The survey was available on the school district's website at www.smasd.org and asked about opinions regarding the lunches served in the district. Jennifer Asti, SMASD food service director, was concerned about what some of the misconceptions that parents have from their children on the matter.
St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney met with Asti to begin reviewing the survey responses and comments.
