In a 6-1 vote members of St. Marys City Council approved a cooperation agreement among the city, North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission and Creekside Investments, LLC for a new downtown hotel project.
Councilman Gary Anderson cast the only opposing vote.
"I don't think the city is fully protected from any financial liability and I believe that we should have had a letter of credit from his bank or a bond from an insurance company to make sure the city has no financial liability," Anderson explained.
FOX TWP. â€“Â The Historical Society of St. Marys and Benzinger Township held its 51st annual banquet commemorating the Dec. 8, 1842 founding of Sanct Marienstadt on Sunday evening at The Red Fern in Fox Township, this year focusing on the culmination of the dream of historical society founder Charlie Schaut in establishing a permanent location for preserving the community's history.
The St. Marys Heritage Preservation Group will be holding a Historic Christmas Church Tour hosted by local historian Ray Beimel on Sunday, Dec. 29 from 1:30-3 p.m.
The tour will feature stops at five local churches: St. Agnes Episcopal Church, Shiloh Presbyterian Church, United Methodist Church, Sacred Heart Church, and St. Mary's Church.
A proposed idea to construct a glass enclosure at the entrance to City Hall offices as part of a security precaution was briefly discussed by members of St. Marys City Council and Chief of Police Todd Caltagarone.
The enclosure would be constructed on the second floor of the Farmers National Bank building where the City of St. Marys offices are located.
The Pa. State Police Fire Marshal and the Crystal Fire Department report investigating the origin and cause of a fire that damaged Camco Diversified, a 23,000 square foot industrial property, located at 431 Curry Ave. in St. Marys at 8:47 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29.
A Kane woman has been arrested twice for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol within a two-hour period.
Shelly Larae Dyne, 44, of 223 Dawson St., Kane, was first charged with DUI while driving at 1:41 a.m. Nov. 24 in the area of Bayard Street, Kane, court records show. She was operating a 2012 yellow Ford Focus, court documents show.
Patrick W. Moriarty, 77, of 939 Fern Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys.
He was born Dec. 23, 1935 in St. Marys, a son of the late John Irish and Martha Haberberger Moriarty.
On April 25, 1959 in Sacred Heart Church, he married the late Marlene T. Taylor Moriarty, who preceded him in death on March 30, 2004.
Joseph L. "Jagg" VonArx, 55, of 1590 Burning Well Rd., Wilcox, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30, 2013 at Kane Community Hospital in Kane.
He was born Nov. 26, 1958 in Kane, son of the late Keith VonArx and Patricia Machowiak VonArx Feronti.
He resided in Wilcox most of his life, and was formerly of St. Marys and Thermopolis, Wyo. He was a member of Wilcox Sportsmen's Club, Wilcox Legion, and had been employed by Redmond's Redi-Mix for 10 years, ECI Construction for many years, and had also worked for drilling companies in Wyoming for many years.
