January 7th
Paul "Skip" Schreiber, 67, of Davie, Fla., died on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013.
A native of St. Marys, Skip relocated to south Florida in the mid-1960s, where he enjoyed a career in the music and record industry as a record promoter with Campus records and as a promotions director with Pickwick International.
Skip leaves behind his wife, Theresa, sons Anthony (Magaly) and Joseph (Allison); and grandchildren Alexandra and Maxwell; a brother, Lavern Schreiber (Joyce); and his stepfather, Floyd Tucci of St. Marys.
June E. Pearson, 86, of Johnsonburg, died at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, on Sunday evening, Jan. 6, 2013.
She was born Jan. 27, 1926 in Johnsonburg, a daughter of the late Axel and Alla Bowers Pearson.
June was a member of First Baptist Church of Johnsonburg, where she had served many years as Vice Moderator, Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. June also served as President of the Anna B Class, and Women’s Missionary Society of the Allegheny River Association.
Charles R. Cover III, 61, of 101 N. Mill St., Ridgway, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at his residence. He was born Feb. 25, 1951, in St. Marys, the son of the late Charles R. and Frances Luchs Cover Jr.
Mr. Cover was a longtime Elk County resident. He attended Johnsonburg High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
January 6th
The 55th annual St. Marys Area Quarterback Club Football Awards Program was held Saturday night in Carpin Auditorium at the St. Marys Area High School.
On Saturday the St. Marys Area High School gymnastics team traveled to Bellefonte to participate in the Bellefonte Bash Gymnastics Invitational.

Ridgway boys' basketball used a strong third quarter to overtake the Elk County Catholic Crusaders 48-41 Saturday night in front of an overflow crowd at Ridgway Area High School.
This freshly fallen snow covers the trees along state route 255 south in Elk County. This week a Pacific air flow will result in milder temperatures which are expected to be in the upper 30s/lower 40s with partly sunny/partly cloudy skies. However, this will soon change: Temperatures are expected to dip in mid-January as frigid air moves in from the North Pole.
RIDGWAY - A Ridgway man headed to trial on drug charges filed after state police allegedly uncovered marijuana growing on his Long Level Road property was in Elk County Court last week seeking the suppression of evidence obtained by police in aerial and physical searches of his property and home.
Prior to the start of their recent holiday break, members of the junior and senior classes at Elk County Catholic High School had the opportunity to attend informational sessions with school alumni to learn about various careers from ECC alumni already employed in those areas.
