When I checked the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Calendar of Events for the Pennsylvania Wilds just now, I counted 25 events, some as close as Parker Dam State Park and others farther away at Bald Eagle, Hills Creek or Leonard Harrison state parks.

JOHNSONBURG - A Johnsonburg man has been charged with impersonating a state police officer in attempting to place a phone call to an Elk County Prison inmate.

James Thomas, a Cameron County commissioner, officially took the reins Wednesday as chairman of the board of directors at the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC].
Georgiana Louise Simchick, 65, of 1625 Bendigo Rd., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 23, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 29, 1947 in Ridgway, daughter of George and the late Mary Chupa Cherry.
She married Richard Simchick on Jan. 29, 1966 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg; he survives.

The Bradford Owls outscored the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 6-3 margin in overtime Wednesday night to take over sole possession of the District 9 League with a 5-0 record as Bradford won the game 42-39.
JOHNSONBURG - A Ridgway man charged with robbing a Johnsonburg bank at gunpoint was in Magisterial District Court on Wednesday where he waived his preliminary hearing on felony charges stemming from the Jan. 8 incident.
