Frances A. Anderson, 96, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 105 David St., Kersey, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 30, 1916, in Kersey, daughter of the late Antolino and Josephine Stenta. On Aug. 3, 1935, in the Maria Lutheran Church, she married Andrew John Anderson, who preceded her in death on June 5, 1986.
Mrs. Anderson was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1934. She was a member of the Maria Lutheran Church.
Confirmation candidates from the three local parishes-- St. Marys, Sacred Heart, and Queen of the World-- held a 'Soup'er Bowl collection following each Mass at all three parishes on the weekend of the Super Bowl earlier this month. Student volunteers also manned a collection following a Mass held at the chapel at Elk County Catholic High School that weekend prior to the Diamond Dazzle. Throughout the course of that weekend, over $5,700 was raised to benefit the St. Marys Christian Food Bank.

In a game full of twists and turns, the Johnsonburg Rams (24-2) battled back from a 13-point deficit to defeat Elk County Catholic (19-7) by a 57-52 score, their fifth win of the season at the Crusaders' expense.
Imelda S. Frey, 93, a resident of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, died Friday morning, Feb. 22, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
She was born June 22, 1919 in Kersey, daughter of the late George and Anna Leismeister Auman. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School. She was employed as a seamstress for the Hour Glass Dry Cleaners for 20 years.
On Oct. 6, 1938 in the St. Boniface Church, she married Jerome G. Frey, who preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1999.
Clifford W. Clark, 99, of Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, and formerly of 961 Rich Valley Rd., Emporium, died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor on Thursday afternoon, February 21, 2013.
He was born Aug. 25, 1913 in Emporium, a son of the late Walter and Hulda Walleen Clark.
On June 30, 1934 in Austin, he married Bernice Owens Clark, who survives.
JOHNSONBURG BORO. – The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal, Johnsonburg Borough Police Department and Johnsonburg Fire Department report investigating the origin and cause of a fire that occurred at 11:50 a.m. Friday at 503 Penn St. in the Borough of Johnsonburg.

Cathie Bauer, Association Executive for the Elk-Cameron Board of Realtors and a broker for Anderson & Kime Realty Services, Inc., said numerous home buyers under 30 years old closed on houses this year.

The majority of deaths investigated by the county coroner's office in 2012 were attributed to natural causes, according to Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio.Â
RIDGWAY - The Community Nurses, Inc., an affiliate of Elk Regional Health Systems, is hoping to inspire discussion and consideration of the issues surrounding end-of-life care options with the screening of a documentary film on the topic at 7 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 24 at St. Leo's Social Hall in Ridgway. Another screening will be held Wednesday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Education Center at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys.
