SMA swimmers finish PIAA meet on high note

LEWISBURG — The St. Marys Area swimmers finished on a high note when they concluded day two of the PIAA AA Swim & Dive Championships at Bucknell on Thursday.
For the Lady Dutch, their whirlwind season ended just as it began, with two of the squad’s top performers swimming personal bests while breaking their own school records, while the Dutchmen found a little magic on Thursday morning. sending one into the consolation finals that night.

The names were ones like Rogan, Cashman, McBride, Mullaney, Sullivan, Malone, Mulhearn, Trambley, Fitzgerald, Halloran, O'Dell, O'Donnell, Gaffey, Doran, Fehley, Meagher, Curry, O'Brien, O'Hern, Bailey, Harper, Milligan, Harrigan, Kelly, and Phelan--just to name more than a few.  They and many others from "The Emerald Isle" are woven into the fabric of Sanct Marienstadt.  

Bucks for Brenda’s Battle Benefit planned

JAMES CITY – Brenda Emer was first diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 1997. Her son John was three years old, her daughter Allison only two. While still getting a handle on her own illness, Brenda found out that John had Type I Diabetes.
More than 15 years and eleven cancer diagnoses later, Brenda is still fighting. Those of us who are lucky enough to call her a friend marvel in her strength and lack of self-pity.

School cafe keeps students refreshed

Never mind Starbucks-- students at St. Marys Area High School have the Dutch Cafe, their own in-school coffee shop.
Open throughout the school day except for lunch periods, students can stop by to purchase a variety of beverages and snacks, study or socialize.

Irvin Mattivi

Irvin Mattivi, 83, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Agostino Mattivi of Kersey, died quietly at home on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1929. Upon returning from the Korean War, he married the love of his life, Geraldine C. (Jean) Mattivi on June 20, 1953, and raised their four daughters in Raleigh, N.C. They have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He retired from IBM in 1995. He stayed active in his church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and with the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving example to his family and friends, and to all.
