Jeannette Bauer Rynd

Jeannette Bauer Rynd, 88, of Espyville, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at UPMC Horizon in Greenville. 
Born in North Shenango Township on May 22, 1924, she was the daughter of Herman and Leta Linn Bauer. 
She married Charles E. Rynd Sr. on September 23, 1944, and he preceded her in death on May 5, 2002.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Andover, Ohio with the practice of the profession of her Christian faith a life-long personal effort. She was employed from 1970 through 1987 as a medical bookkeeper. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, story writing and baking.

Mary E. Harlan

Mary E. Harlan, 91, a 20-year Sierra Vista resident, died on March 17, 2013 at Golden Oaks Ranch.
She was born June 11, 1921 in St. Marys.
She graduated high school in 1938.
On July 11, 1942 she married Thomas T. Harlan, and he preceded her in death.
She followed her Army husband for 32 1/2 years and they moved to Sierra Vista in 1993. She was a wonderful Army wife, mother, and grandmother.

911 Center upgrades console

Elk County commissioners on Tuesday approved the purchase of a new radio console valued at over $200,000.
Michael A. McAllister, director of Elk County Emergency Management, reported Tuesday that the county's current console system has been rendered obsolete.
"Currently at the 911 Center, our radio console is a Motorola centracom console and it is over 20 years of age," McAllister said. "Last year we received our end-of-life letter notifying us that [Motorola] will no longer be supporting it and when parts are gone, they are no longer producing parts for it.

Supervisors review fracking ordinance

The Ridgway Township Board of Supervisors continued a discussion from a regular meeting in March concerning Marcellus Shale gas extraction site located near the Ridgway Reservoir as well as other drilling sites throughout the township.

St. Marys family safe in Boston

Word has been received the Quesenberry family from St. Marys is safe in Boston. They are expected home late tonight.
The family was in attendance, along with two additional family members, to cheer on mom Molly Quesenberry as she successfully completed the Boston Marathon just after 2 p.m. They were about one block from the finish line when the bombings occurred. As the temperature began to cool down, the softball bats began to heat up at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
