Unwanted medicine collection set for Saturday

Elk County was the first in the State of Pennsylvania to hold a state-sanctioned medicine collection several years ago, and the Elk County Recycling Office will hold their 11th and 12th medicine collections this year, with the next one scheduled for Saturday, April 27 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Education Center at Elk Regional Medical Center, 763 Johnsonburg Rd., in St. Marys.

Spring luncheon to benefit children with cleft palates

Assisting families with children suffering from cleft and craniofacial anomalies is the goal of the Adam's Smile Auxiliary of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, set to host their second annual fundraising event on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Red Fern.

Arthur G. “Art” Edwards

Arthur G. “Art” Edwards, age 84, of Mars, and formerly of Punxsutawney, Reynoldsville, Sharon, St. Marys and Indiana, died on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born on June 4, 1928 in Home, he was the son of the late Giles Stephens and Luella Dick Edwards.
He was raised on a farm in Marchard in Jefferson County and graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1946. He honorably served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Motorcycle Military Police Division in Western Germany from 1950 to 1953.

Lady Crusader softball holds off DCC 6-3

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders built a lead in the early innings of Monday afternoon's game at Benzinger Park and then held off an attempted rally by the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals late in the game to come away with a 6-3 victory.

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch baseball team saw their record slip to 1-5 on the season as the DuBois Area Beavers edged the Dutch by a 3-1 score in nine innings at Berwind Park Monday afternoon.

Golf Authority looking to purchase several pieces of new equipment

Members of the Benzinger Township Golf Authority were on hand at the latest St. Marys City Council meeting to request the city back their loan guarantee. On hand from the authority were three board members, with Herb Straub, chairman and Jim Dornisch, golf course superintendent speaking with council.

KANE – A Ridgway couple face drug charges following a traffic stop Monday afternoon on Route 321 near the entrance of Kane High School. William Aaron Fourness Jr., 24, and Chelsea Marie Bowler, 22, both of Vine Street, Ridgway, were taken to the McKean County Jail in Smethport following their arraignment before Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman.
