ERIE â€“ A federal court has ordered that a St. Marys woman's prison salary of between 12 cents and 40 cents an hour be used to pay over $1.5 million dollars in restitution to her victims.
On Friday, May 10, Sandra Ann Prechtel, 51, of St. Marys, was sentenced to 51 months in a federal prison after pleading guilty to charges of mail fraud and tax evasion.
Over 200 fifth grades students participated in Elk County Safety Day held Tuesday at the Elk County Fairgrounds in Kersey.
The daylong event emphasized various health and safety lessons applicable when on a farm, ranch or at home.
This marked the sixth year for the event organized by Natalie Aiello and Jaclyn Kocjancic of the Penn State Extension in Elk County. It is sponsored and supported by the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day Foundation, which hosts similar events nationwide.
LaVerne C. â€śBird Dogâ€ť Brennen Sr., 75, of 1026 Windfall Road, St. Marys, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 4, 1937 in St. Marys, son of the late Eugene and Esther Caskey Brennen Sr. On August 26, 1961 in St. Marys, he married Phyllis J. Dinger Thompson, who survives.
