The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders advanced to the semifinals of the District 9 Class A softball tournament with a 10-1 victory over the Brockway Lady Rovers Wednesday at Benzinger Park.

But the latest blow has been dealt to the North Central Pa. Regional Planning and Development Commission, a largely grants-driven regional program in charge of distributing governmental funds to area communities, industry, economic growth, workforce quality, and business opportunity.

Flags placed on veterans' graves Wednesday evening

By the time Tom Price, Sergeant in Charge of the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail, arrived at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, a number of volunteers were already waiting to help place around 2,000 American flags on veterans' graves throughout the cemetery ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
