RIDGWAY â€“ Accused murderer Nicholas Martin entered a plea of "not guilty" in Elk County Court Friday to homicide and related charges filed in connection with the March 23 stabbing death and disappearance of a Ridgway teen.
The St. Marys Area High School celebrated the Class of 2013 on Friday evening as part of the school's 117th annual commencement program.
Master of Ceremonies Alex Schreiber greeted his fellow graduates along with family, friends, and school administrators and school board members. Among the speakers of the evening were Valedictorian Alec Foster and Salutatorian Taylor Bellina.
Over the years it has become customary for a few of the graduating seniors at St. Marys Area High School to various types drive farm equipment to school on their day. A trio of seniors put a different spin on that concept Friday morning, leaving the farm equipment at home and instead opting to show up with some real horse power.

RIDGWAY â€“ Dickinson Center Inc.'s C.O.P.E. (Coalition of People Empowered) Drop-In Center celebrated an open house Thursday afternoon for its new Wellness Gym. The gym is located on the first floor of the Drop-In Center and features various exercise equipment including an elliptical, stationary bike, two treadmills, a universal gym and a small kitchenette with water and healthy snacks along with a table where customers can meet with Dickinson staff.
ST. MARYS â€“ A St. Marys woman and her boyfriend are charged with stealing her father's identity and using it to take out a loan in his name, without his knowledge.

Elk County Catholic's Brandon Schlimm worked a no-hitter six and two thirds innings but still held on for a shutout in the second seeded Crusaders' 3-0 victory over the third seeded Clarion Bobcats on Wednesday afternoon in a District 9 Class A semifinal match-up at McKinley Field in Brookville.
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team captured the District 9-AAA championship Wednesday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks at the Brockway Area High School.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team reached the championship game of the District 9 Class A softball tournament by defeating the Smethport Lady Hubbers by a 5-2 score in a game played at the Brockway Area High School.
Grace P. Cassady, 85, of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, and formerly of 131 W. Condot Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 10, 1928 in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Abplanalp Shilk.
On Sept. 5, 1947 in Cornell, N.Y., she married the late Norbert W. Cassady.
