JOHNSONBURG â€“ A Johnsonburg mother has been criminally charged in connection with a car wreck that seriously injured her four-year-old daughter after police say she was driving on a suspended license following a DUI.
This year the Elk County Community Foundation awarded a total of 97 scholarships to area graduating high school seniors totaling $117,000.
Among the Class of 2013 recipients were 30 students from St. Marys Area High School, 16 students from Elk County Catholic High School, 21 students from Ridgway Area High School, 14 students from Johnsonburg Area High School, five from Kane Area High School, one from Cameron County Area High School and six to students from DuBois Area and Brockway Area high schools.
ST. MARYS â€“ Two individuals have been charged with drug offenses after police reportedly interrupted a drug deal at a Washington Street apartment where they found five individuals in a cloud of marijuana smoke emanating from the building's basement.

She was born May 17, 2012, the beloved daughter of Kristy (Urban) and Steve J. Reed Jr.
A happy baby, she was loved by everyone who met her.
Walter L. Cheatle, 90, of 140 Sara Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born June 2, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio, son of the late Edward and Lillian Davis Cheatle.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys High School. He was a former employee of the Keystone Carbon Company and retired from Sylvania in 1981.
On June 17, 1944 in the St. Maryâ€™s Monastery, he married Adeline G. Groll, who survives.
Mr. Cheatle was a member of the Queen of the World Church and was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army.
