Thomas John McGill, 68, of Gardner Hill, Weedville died suddenly on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. 
He was born February 17, 1945 in St. Marys, son of the late Aloysius McGill and Mary Piccolo McGill Reed.
He was a graduate of St. Marys High School and was in the Air Force during Vietnam. He was an avid Penn State Fan, enjoyed the outdoors, and loved watching his grandchildren play sports.

North Central to renegotiate $205,482 in Careerlink leases

RIDGWAY – The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission announced at Wednesday's meeting that it has renegotiated $38,000 off of $205,482 in annual leases on three of its six Careerlink properties as part of continued efforts to streamline organization expenditures.

Rain or shine, Fox Twp. Bicentennial events slated for the weekend

The Fox Township Bicentennial Celebration kicks off today with the opening of vendor booths at 3 p.m. Among this weekend's highlights are firework displays, a parade, food and beverage vendors, concerts and much more taking place at numerous venues within the Main Street area.
The opening ceremony is slated for tonight at 7 p.m. at the Fox Twp. Community Park, followed by a grand firework display after dark.

Humane Society thief asks to be released

ERIE – A St. Marys man who pleaded guilty on April 18 to the theft of $500,000 from the Elk County Humane Society is asking to be released from federal custody until his September sentencing.
On June 24, Richard A. Danz filed a motion for release in which his attorneys argue that their client was incorrectly labeled a "flight risk" by prosecutors. Defense attorneys claim when Danz, age 48, and his family left their St. Marys home on Aug. 29, 2012, for Matthews, N.C., he was unaware that criminal charges had been filed against him in Elk County that same day.

DuBois flooded after deluge of rain

According to the Elk County Office of Emergency Services/9-1-1 Facebook page, DuBois received 5.87 inches of rain between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

St. Marys 11-12 softball stars beat Warren 8-4

The St. Marys Little League Softball Major All Stars (11-12 year olds) advanced to the finals of the District 10 Major League Tournament with an 8-4 victory over the Warren squad Wednesday night at Benzinger Park.
St. Marys will now take on Punxsutawney tonight in the finals. St. Marys, the winners of the loser's bracket, must defeat Punxsy twice in order to win the District 10 crown. Tonight's game will start at 6 p.m. at a site to be determined.

Herzing throws no-no, 16 Ks in St. Marys Legion's victory

St. Marys American Legion Post 103 ace Jack Herzing recorded a no-hitter against Port Allegany on Wednesday evening as St. Marys claimed the 7-1 victory in the contest at Berwind Park. In addition to not giving up any hits, Herzing fanned 16 and walked three.

Arthur G. Hasselman

Arthur G. Hasselman, 74, of 115 Pistner Road, St. Marys, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born March 7, 1939 in St. Marys, son of the late Michael and Agnes Glass Hasselman.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1957. He was a retired employee of Keystone Carbon Company, retiring in 2001 with 43 years of service.
On November 18, 1961 in the Queen of the World Church, he married Betty J. Young, who survives.

North Central keeping close watch on state budget talks
