Leaning Pines Public Golf Course is officially open, and the course is playable and continues to improve despite the late start to maintaining it this season. Formerly known as the St. Marys Country Club and then St. Marys Golf Club, the courseâ€™s new moniker was derived from some of the trees that line its fairways, according to Jeff Struble, a member of the operating team of Leaning Pines Public Golf Course.
Sitting in a pew in the back of Queen of the World Church following a reception at the conclusion of his final Mass as pastor of Queen of the World Parish on Sunday morning, Fr. Michael Ferrick briefly reflected on how appreciative he was to the community for everything they have done for him over the nearly seven years he served as pastor.
Grace A. Dietz, 100, of 1529 Front St., Ridgway, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 26, 1913, in Instanter, the daughter of Leonard and Margaret Kemmer Wright.
She married Carl A. Dietz on Nov. 6, 1937 in St. Leoâ€™s Church, he predeceased her in death on Feb. 5, 2000.

Gerald W. Frey, 73, of 15 Jenks Run Rd., Emporium died unexpectedly at his residence Thursday morning, June 6, 2013.
He was born October 22, 1939 in St. Marys, a son of the late Anthony and Elizabeth Herzing Frey.
On May 16, 1964 in Rich Valley Wesleyan Church he married the late Carol Jordan Frey, who preceded him in death in 2005.
Around 100 area youngsters attended the Dinosaur Dig Kickoff event for the St. Marys Public Library's summer reading program on Thursday afternoon. The hourlong event was geared toward children in prekindergarten through fifth grade and featured a variety of activities related to dinosaurs.

O'Dells Lock and Key opened up shop at 208 Brusselles St. and celebrated their new storefront with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce.
Owner Nathan O'Dell started his business in 2010 as a mobile locksmith and decided to open a storefront in January. The business is located across the road from Sheetz.
The shop is currently opened with temporary hours of Monday through Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday from 1-7 p.m.
