Wilcox man dies in crash

WETMORE TWP. – A Wilcox man died Tuesday morning after his vehicle flipped on state Route 6 in Wetmore Township.
According to reports, 38-year-old Charles T. Stahli of Wilcox died in the crash; a passenger, 29-year-old Abby M. O'Rourke suffered minor injuries.

A contingent of residents from Vermont Road were in attendance during Monday evening's St. Marys City Council meeting to support their fellow neighbors in requesting a solution to the serious flooding which has been plaguing them.

Park office painting to feature 'Despicable Me' characters

The quirky and mischievous creatures from "Despicable Me" and the recently released "Despicable Me 2" are part of a new scene being painted on the building by park staff members Taylor Bellina and Ryan Jacobs.

Wilcox advanced to the Elk County American Legion Baseball League finals with a 4-2 win over St. Marys Sunday afternoon at Jones Township Community Park, assuring Wilcox a spot in the Region 8 tournament.

"Adventures in Learning" await students in summer camp programs

For the second consecutive year the Elk County Catholic School System is offering a summer camp program focusing in the areas of religion, academic, arts, music, sports and character building as a way to emphasize that learning is a lifelong process, not something that happens just nine months of the year while school is in session.
All students from throughout the area are invited to participate in the camps, all of which are instructed by ECCSS faculty.

Fire extinguished at Domtar paper mill

JOHNSONBURG – Crews left the scene at approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning after battling a large fire at Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg for nearly 20 hours; the blaze broke out early Friday afternoon in a tunnel beneath the chip yard at the mill.
Domtar, which employs roughly 400 people, is functional as crews will manually transport wood chips to the plant rather than use the conveyor belt system.

JOHNSONBURG – A large fire broke out early Friday afternoon in a tunnel beneath the chip yard at Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg. As of press time Friday night, the fire was still burning.
According to Craig Timm, a media relations representative for Domtar, the fire broke out in the wood chip conveyor system.

Fact-finding report released in Ridgway teachers contract dispute

RIDGWAY - After two years of talks, 12 bargaining sessions, fact-finding hearings and numerous closed-door discussions, Ridgway's school teachers and district are no closer to reaching a deal on teacher contracts.
In that time, the district's 78 teachers have been working to secure a new collective bargaining agreement with the district while renegotiating on line items like salaries and medical benefits.
