David M. Martin

August 16, 2013

David M. Martin, 64, of 242 N. Michael St., St. Marys, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at Willard-Filmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville, New York.
He was born July 17, 1949 in St. Marys, a son of the late Andrew  and Gertrude Lodes Martin.
On Aug. 19, 1983 in Sacred Heart Church, he married Gloria Weichman Martin, who survives.

Joy Marie Farley

Joy Marie Farley, 58, of 252 S. Paul Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 following a short illness at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie.
She was born Oct. 24, 1954 in St. Marys, a daughter of Avis Schauer Neubert of St. Marys and the late Charles Neubert.
On May 16, 1981 in Queen of the World Church, she married Stephen Farley, who survives.

Community pool closing Tuesday, Aug. 20

The St. Marys Community Pool will close for the summer at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20 according to Pool Manager Greg Snelick.

James 'Jitter' Stansbury

James 'Jitter' Stansbury, 73, of Lake Striker, Texas, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at his residence.
He was born June 16, 1940 to Roy Lee and Bertha Ann Stansbury in Clarksville, Texas.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was retired from Anderson Hickey, working there as a manager.

Vera Mae Cartwright

Vera Mae Cartwright, 70, of 169 Margaret Rd., St. Marys, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh surrounded by her family.
She was born July 5, 1943 in Hagerstown, Md., daughter of the late Charles and Bessie Baker Beauchamp. She was married to the late Bruce Cartwright, who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2012.
Mrs. Cartwright was Baptist by faith and enjoyed baking cookies, gardening and flowers. She was a pillar of strength who enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Meeting turns sour with heated argument

WEEDVILLE – A heated discussion with a Jay Township resident resulted in two members of the Jay Township Supervisors threatening to contact the state police to escort the resident from the Thursday evening meeting.
The altercation ensued following an argument between supervisors Jeremy Rippey and Francis Gustafson with resident Bob Coppolo about his outbursts to a variety of issues, specifically the difficulty Coppolo has said he has had in obtaining information from the township's sewer and water authority meetings.

Board votes 6-3 for longer school day in Kane

The Kane school day will be longer for students when classes resume Aug. 27. The Kane School Board voted 6-3 Thursday to approve an "administrative plan" to lengthen the school day to provide more time for remedial work and "enrichment" programs.

St. Leo's Summer Festival this weekend
