Karen Louise Plyler

Karen Louise Plyler died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Thursday, July 25, 2013.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Eileen Biank of Nappanee, Ind.
She had lived in Elkhart, Ind. since the spring of 1983. She was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1969.
She loved nature and the outdoors. She enjoyed listening to music and loved to cook. She truly enjoyed the friendships she had made over the years through Faith Mission Home and Oaklawn. She will be forever loved and missed by many.

David J. Mohr

David J. Mohr, 72, a longtime resident of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. and a former resident of Hudson, Ohio, died August 4, 2013.
He was born December 23, 1940 in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph and Susanna Mohr.
He graduated from St. Marys Central Catholic High School in 1958, and attended the University of Pittsburgh.
He enjoyed a loyal career of 49 years as a sales engineer for the Stackpole Carbon Company. He was also a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard, and was honorably discharged in January 1968.

Commissioners approve board additions

The Elk County commissioners on Tuesday approved the appointment of three new voting members to the Family Resources Network during their morning board meeting.
The additions are John Amarotis and Glenn Freeburg of St. Marys, and Rebecca Nelson of Community Nurses.

2013 Elk County Fair kicks off

The 39th annual Elk County Fair opened Tuesday afternoon at the fairgrounds in Kersey. The traditional Opening Ceremony began at 6 p.m. with brief welcoming statements by local and county government officials and a baked good auction. New royalty was also crowned. The 2013 Elk County Fair Queen is Alexa Marciniak, 16, a junior at Johnsonburg High School. She is the daughter of Dave and Jane Marciniak. The Junior Queen is Audrey South, 14, a freshman at St. Marys Area High School. She is the daughter of Brad South and Jim and Leigh Aaron. The runner-up was Alexis Swanson of Kersey.

Attendees enjoy Mike Proudfit Night events

It may have been a bit on the cool side in St. Marys on Monday evening but that did not stop a sizable crowd from turning out at the St. Marys Community Pool for the second annual Mike Proudfit Night.
While the number of individuals who actually went in the water may have been less than pool staff hoped, attendees had an enjoyable time participating in a variety of events, which included trying their hand at hitting a target to dunk Memorial Park and St. Marys Community Pool staff members in a dunking booth.
