Elk County Catholic's Elliott Struble was the medalist at the Bradford High School Boys Golf Invitational on Saturday with a round of 74.
He and teammates Drew Meyer and Mitchell Struble finished second overall as a team with a score of 247. Ridgway came in first with a score of 240.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team won the Brockway Tournament on Saturday with a perfect 14-0 record.
It was a chilly, damp, and turnover-filled night at Dutch Country Stadium on Saturday as the Elk County Catholic Crusaders saw their record fall to 0-3 as they lost 19-13 to the Cameron County Red Raiders.
Turnovers hurt both teams throughout the game, with each squad losing a pair of fumbles and giving up a trio of interceptions.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader picked up their first win of the season by defeating the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch 3-1 on Saturday morning at the SMAHS soccer field in the consolation match of the 15th annual Bucktail Girls Soccer Tournament. It was the first meeting between the two teams this season.
After 100 minutes of soccer and a shootout, the Bradford Lady Owls captured the 2013 Bucktail Tournament with a 3-2 victory over the Ridgway Lady Elkers. The tournament was played at the SMAHS soccer field.
Policy resolutions on issues important to agriculture and rural living were adopted at the Elk County Farm Bureau annual meeting, held Sept. 14 at Gunnerâ€™s Restaurant in St. Marys.
Policy recommendations on state or national issues will be submitted to the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) for statewide consideration.
The membership also heard an update on the organizationâ€™s activities for the year from its President, Roger Auman, St. Marys.
State Representative Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) honored members of the 2013 St. Marys Little League softball senior all star team on Sunday evening at the Sacred Heart Activity Center in recognition of the state title that the team won earlier this summer.
St. Marys had defeated Plains in a 4-3 come from behind victory at Ber-Vaughn Park in Berwick on Monday, July 22.
The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors approved several personnel items during their recent meeting.
All employment recommendations are provisional for 30 days pending receipt of Act 151 and Act 34 clearance documentation and pre-employment drug testing if applicable.

â€˘Shannon Eckels of St. Marys was hired effective Sept. 4 as a tutor at Bennetts Valley Elementary at a rate of $9 per hour. Eckels is currently a substitute within the district. She holds a bachelor of science degree in education with elementary certification.
