Today may be the last day of summer, but St. Marys is ready to welcome the fall with its 4th Bavarian Fall Fest. The Festival had its opening ceremony at 6 p.m. last night with Pastor Tim Hoover delivering the opening prayer.
ST. MARYS â€“ Michael J. Stephanic Jr., who is currently being held on charges of criminal homicide and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of June Andrus, also known as June Talmadge, at Eastern Sintered Metals of 126 Access Rd., had been visited by an officer in connection with his abandoned van being reported in a ditch not far from the Access Road facility, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team used a strong second half along with the rushing of Alex Feldbauer to defeat the Clarion-Limestone Lions by a 48-28 score.
Feldbauer finished the night with 308 net yards on 24 carries and four touchdowns.
St. Marys scored 26 unanswered points in the second half to take charge of the contest.
Cecelia F. Spowal, age 74, of 5298 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Johnsonburg, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 20, 2013 at her residence following a short illness.
She was born on May 30, 1939 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Addeo Marrone.
She Joseph F. Spowal Sr. on Nov. 21, 1970 in Johnsonburg. He died May 22, 2012.
She resided in Johnsonburg all her life.
She graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1957 and then graduated from Ora Jean Beauty School in Erie.
Ridgway's first home game at Memorial Field in Ridgway turned out to be a successful one for the Elkers as Ridgway won 28-8 over Elk County Catholic Friday in the AML South Division opener for both teams.
The St. Marys Area Dutch soccer team was back in action for their second game in as many days on Friday afternoon, this time falling 4-0 to the visiting Punxsutawney Chucks.
Dorothy Carolyne Duke Gray Dollinger, 87, of 891 Shelvey Summit Rd., Ridgway, and formerly of Main Street, Kersey, died Thursday evening, Sept. 19, 2013, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 2, 1926 in Goshen, daughter of the late Daniel Duke and Ada Shovestul. She was a graduate of Clearfield High School, Class of 1944, and had been a resident of the area since 1944. She was a retired employee of Exotic Metals (Metaldyne).
David Carlyle Kirkland, age 81, of 12219 Shanley Hill, Hallton, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb.18, 1932, at the Shanley Homestead, Shanley Hill, Hallton, Pennsylvania, one of three children to Virginia Shanley and Claude Kirkland.
David married his beloved Frances J. Henry on Nov. 23, 1957, and they had been married for 56 years.
