The District 9 Boys' Golf Championship was held Monday at The Pennhills Club in Bradford. The second round will be played Saturday at Pennhills to determine the top eight Class AA golfers and the top two Class AAA golfers who will advance to the West Individual Regional scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Tom's Run Golf Course at Chestnut Ridge Golf Resort in Blairsville.
Ridgway girls soccer won 6-0 against St. Marys in action Monday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Maxine Kay Salter, 71, of Queen Creek, Ariz., died on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013.
She was born to the late Marino and Eleanor Mori on Jan. 1, 1942, in Toby.
Maxine graduated from Kersey High School in 1959.
She is survived by her loving companion, Kendall Cosslett, of Queen Creek; two sons, James Robert Salter and Bernard Robert Salter, both of St. Marys; a daughter, Christine Lyn Pottenger of Gilbert, Ariz.; and her four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.
Monday evening's Elk County Conservation District Meeting also marked the District's 51-year anniversary. The District, one of 66 throughout Pennsylvania, began its first year in September of 1962.
New addition to the city's parking ordinance, parking garage repairs and city expenses were just a few items discussed during a recent St. Marys City Council meeting.
Area residents who have visited the St. Marys Public Library recently have likely seen a new face behind the counter and putting together the organization's programs. Leslie Barr, a native of Kersey who currently resides in DuBois, took over as director earlier this summer, replacing former director Scarlette Corbin.
