Crusader golfers defeated by Ridgway 190-205 for first loss

The Elk County Catholic Crusader golf team lost their first match of the season on Tuesday afternoon as they came up short against the Ridgway Elkers 190-205 in a match played in Ridgway.
Ridgway's Josh Roselli was the medalist for the day with a round of 35. The low scorers for ECC were Elliott Struble and Jess Jaynes with 39s.

Dutch soccer loses to Smethport 4-1

The St. Marys Area Dutch soccer team began a tough three-day stretch of games with a 4-1 loss to the visiting Smethport Hubbers on Tuesday afternoon at the SMAHS soccer field.
The match was also St. Marys' third in the last four days.

Leo W. Biel

September 10, 2013

Leo W. Biel, 90, of 5861 Glen Hazel Rd., Wilcox, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 10, 2013, at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a short illness.
He was born April 11, 1923 in Portage, son of the late John and Anna Biel Biel.
He married Doris Rosa Hamilton on Sept. 20, 1947 in Brockway, and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2003.
He resided in Wilcox all his life and attended Wilcox schools. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Rasselas.

New access planned for garbage collection site

FOX TWP. – Fox Township residents will soon have improved access to the township garbage collection site. During their recent meeting the Fox Twp. Supervisors approved the construction of a new road to the site which would involve changing the entrance.

Lady Crusader soccer comes up short against Brookville 2-1

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders snapped a two-and-a-half game scoreless streak on Monday afternoon but still came up on the losing end of a 2-1 contest against the Brookville Lady Raiders.

Crusader soccer edged by Gators 4-3

There may not have been a big crowd at Angela Huey Memorial Field in Fox Township on Monday night for the Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team's home opener, but those who were in attendance had the opportunity to witness an exciting, back-and-forth matchup between the Crusaders and Port Allegany Gators that saw Port edge Elk 4-3 in the final minutes for the victory.

Plans in full swing for SSMSE playground

Plans for the South St. Marys Street Elementary School playground is receiving great support from administrators, teachers, parents, students and the community at large. This was evident during Monday evening's St. Marys Area School District board of directors meeting as Superintendent Ann Kearney encouraged the board's the support in allocating funds for the project.

Mother, son are still hospitalized

PITTSBURGH – A Kane woman and her 10-year-old son remain hospitalized in separate Pittsburgh medical centers with injuries sustained in a horrific Aug. 31 traffic accident near Lantz Corners.
Kathy Douglas, 36, of Kane is listed in "serious" condition in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)--Presbyterian, a hospital spokesman said Monday.
