Yes, a crowd of more than 300 can be silent.
This was evident Sunday evening at the start of an emotional candlelight vigil for Jarrett Costanzo and Olivia Douglas. These young children were killed in a Saturday traffic accident on Route 219 near Lantz Corners.
Organized by Mike Hulings of Kane on the Facebook social media site on the internet, the vigil featured testimonies to cousins Costanzo, 6, and Douglas, 12.
The 90-minute vigil was held at the football field at the Kane Middle School on Hemlock Avenue.
KANE (AP) â Six people killed in a head-on car crash on a highway in a northwestern Pennsylvania forest include a 12-year-old cheerleader with an infectious smile and a 6-year-old boy described as a scrappy competitor in a variety of sports.
A sport utility vehicle crossed the center line on Saturday afternoon and hit an approaching sedan in Allegheny National Forest, killing 6-year-old Jarrett Costanzo and 12-year-old Olivia Douglas and injuring a woman and her 10-year-old son, all in the SUV, state police said.
Florence A. "Flossie" Donachy, 82, of 217 Martin Rd., St. Marys, died on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident in McKean County.
She was born Feb. 1, 1931 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Charles and Marian Feidler Ott.
On July 15, 1950 in St. Mary's Church, she married the late Robert W. "Schultz" Donachy, who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2009.
David G. Cuneo, 54, of 131 Grandview Rd., St. Marys, died on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident in McKean County.
He was born April 21, 1959 in St. Marys, a son of the late Silvio and Evelyn Ott Cuneo.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Queen of the World Church.Â He was employed by the City of St. Marys in the Street Department for more than 20 years.Â He was a member of the CYMA and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and golï¬ng.
Gary H. Beimel, 62, of 146 Terrace Road, St. Marys, died on Saturday, August 31, 2013 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident in McKean County.
He was born August 7, 1951 in St. Marys, a son of the late Frank X. and Lyra Meier Beimel.
On June 9, 1979 in Queen of the World Church, he married the late Elaine Cuneo Beimel, his wife of more than 34 years.
Elaine M.Â Beimel, 55, of 146 Terrace Rd., St. Marys, died on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident in McKean County.
She was born Sept. 24, 1957 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Silvio and Evelyn C. Ott Cuneo.
On June 9, 1979 in Queen of the World Church, she married the late Gary Beimel, her husband of more than 34 years.
Hazel A. (Peachie) King, 87, of Monterey Avenue, Ridgway, died Friday evening, Aug. 30, 2013.
She was born in Ridgway on Nov. 3, 1925, daughter of the late Leo and Martha (Zurcher) Allinger.
She was married to Jack W. King who preceded her in death in July of 1973.
Mrs. King graduated from Ridgway High School in 1943, attended West Penn Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1946. She was employed as a private duty nurse for several years and worked at the Elk County General Hospital for many years, retiring in 1980.
Joan M. "Joni" Thompson, 67, of 109 Hemlock Ln., Kersey, died on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born June 28, 1946 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Sabatini Snyder.
On June 6, 1970 in Dagus Mines, she married Roger Thompson, who survives.
Emma L. Anderson, 80, of 1123 South Michael Rd., St. Marys, died at her home on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 11, 1933 in Dagus Mines, a daughter of the late Charles and Lillian Colson Anderson.
She was a lifelong resident of the area.Â She was an avid reader and enjoyed taking long hikes in the woods.Â Together with her lifelong companion Pete, they frequented and enjoyed their friends at many local restaurants, including the Hilltop, the Corner Restaurant, the Benezette Store and Monica's.Â
HAMLIN TWP. â Six people were killed Saturday evening in a fatal two-car crash on state Route 219 at Mead Run Road in Hamlin Township, McKean County.
Kathy Douglas, age 36, of Kane, driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty, suffered serious injuries in the crash along with a 10-year-old juvenile. Two other juveniles, ages 12 and 6, died in the crash.
All four occupants in a second vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville, died. They included Gary Beimel, age 62, Elaine Beimel, age 55, David Cuneo, age 54, and Florence Donachy, age 81, all of St. Marys.
