Franziska Leeb, 97, of 126 Church Street, St. Marys, died unexpectedly Monday, May 20, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
She was born February 3, 1916 in Linz, Austria. She had attended schools in Austria and had resided in St. Marys since 1959. She was a retired employee of Keystone Powdered Metal Co., retiring in 1981 after 21 years of service.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, was known for her cooking and willingness to share it with everyone. She loved learning new things, always ready to go on a trip. Her flowers in the gardens and on her porch were her joy.
With summer-like temperatures forecasted for this week many area residents are anticipating the opening of the St. Marys Community Pool during Memorial Day weekend from Friday through Monday from 12-5 p.m.
The pool will officially open for the summer season on Saturday, June 1.
The Memorial Day Committee has announced completed plans for the annual observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, 2013.
The day's activities will begin at 8 a.m. with graveside services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1047 in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery at the graveside of World War II veterans Bernard (Googs) and Isabel (Belle) Fledderman Haberberger.

Members of St. Marys City Council approved on ordinance authorizing backing an $89,000 loan for the Benzinger Township Golf Authority to purchase maintenance equipment. During their Monday evening meeting City Solicitor Tom Wagner explained First Commonwealth Bank has agreed to lend the money provided the city guarantees the loan.
RIDGWAY – Elk County Prison Warden Greg Gebauer appealed to the Elk County Commissioners in their meeting Monday to approve creation of a Senior Sergeant's position at the prison.
RIDGWAY - With the annual Elk County Relay for Life event scheduled for next month, Monday's meeting of the Elk County Commissioners included presentations from the American Cancer Society in a brief overview of the organization's history and impact.
Patricia A. Nesbitt, 76, of 42 Kennedy Street, Byrnedale, died unexpectedly Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born January 29, 1937 in Fox Twp., daughter of the late Anthony and Sara Dahlquist Nero.
On September 1, 1955 in Force, she married David R. Nesbitt Sr., who preceded her in death on March 18, 2010.

The Relay for Life event for Elk County will feature a few notable changes and additions this year, none more pronounced, however, than the switch to a Saturday and Sunday event.
"The Relay this year for the first time will be from a Saturday to a Sunday," Barb Simbeck said of the June 8-9 event.
McKEAN CO. - McKean County law enforcement have tracked down and arrested a Bradford fugitive in Florida, where they say the man fled after giving police the slip by jumping out of a window at his Welch Avenue home.

The District 9 Class AA Track and Field Championships were held Friday at the Kane Area High School. Competing were the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch squad and the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders and Crusaders.
