The St. Marys Area boys tennis team defeated the visiting Bradford Owls 7-2 on Monday afternoon to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-3 victory over the Clearfield Bison Monday afternoon at the Benzinger and Memorial Park courts.
It had been a very rewarding Monday morning for Adam Smelko of Kane.
The Kane High School teacher finished the 26.2-mile Boston Marathon with a time of 2:58.18, placing him in the top 2,000 out of 27,000 runners.
Unfortunately, Smelko didn't have much time to savor his biggest thrill as a marathon runner.
ST. MARYS â€“ A St. Marys man has been charged with sexually assaulting a relative for more than two years beginning when the girl was seven years old and ending with her 10th birthday. Frank P. Dallasen, 62, of St. Marys, is accused of sexually molesting a relative, an elementary school student at the time of the reported abuse, on a regular basis beginning in 2004 and continuing through 2006.
In an effort to assist first-time home buyers in St. Marys, City Council approved for Tina Gradizzi, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) coordinator, to submit an application for $350,000 as part of the HOME program, a federally funded project.
ST. MARYS â€“ Ashley Jane Bianco, 25, of St. Marys has been charged with heroin trafficking as part of an ongoing investigation by the Office of the Attorney General's Drug Task force and local police into the drug's resurgence in the area.
Anthony â€śTonyâ€ť D. Georgino, 65, of DuBois, and formerly of Tyler, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Born on February 25, 1948 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Patsy and Jennie (Guido) Georgino.
He graduated from DuBois Area High School and attended Kiski Prep and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He was one of the former owners of Georgino Industrial Supply, where he worked all of his life.
Keith L. Hadfield, 50, of 113 Welsh Street, Kane, died suddenly onÂ Sunday, April 14, 2013 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born November 8, 1962, in Kane, he was a son of Marilyn Geer Hadfield and the late Keith Hadfield.Â
On December 14, 1990, in Kane, he married Lanette Paul, who survives.
He was employed at Graftech and prior to that had worked for the Local 603 and Osram-Sylvania.Â He had served in the U.S. Marines, attaining the rank of Corporal.
Rose Marie Smith, 90, died Monday, April 15, 2013, five days short of her 91st birthday, at her home near Renovo.
She was born April 20, 1922, the youngest child of the late Jacob Kingsley and Emma (Smyers) Beck on Gardner Hill, Weedville.
She married Leonard J. Smith August 23, 1948; he preceded her in dead in October, 1990.
She lived most of her life on Gardner Hill in Weedville and also lived in Emporium, Warren, DuBois, Gettysburg, Emlenton, Milroy and the last five years in Renovo. She graduated from the Jay Township High School in 1940.
