Joyce Gayle Holjencin, 70, formerly of Emporium, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Sena-Kean Manor in Smethport.
She was born May 13, 1942, in Crosscreek, the daughter of the late Everett and Ruth Orrick.Â
On June 2, 1960, in Coalport, she married Thomas Holjencin, who preceded her in death on August 24, 2006.
A new mixer-style format is the setup for this year's annual Elk County Women's Social presented by the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are now on sale for "Viva la Vino," a celebration of wonderful women and wine, which is being held Wednesday, April 24 from 6-9 p.m. at the Elk Mountain Winery in St. Marys.

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch tennis team raised their record to 2-0 on the young season with a 7-2 victory over the Clearfield Bison Monday afternoon at the SMAHS courts.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season with an 8-1 victory over the Johnsonburg Rams Monday at Benzinger Park.
The Johnsonburg Ramettes took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of Monday afternoon's softball game at Benzinger Park in St. Marys, but the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders knotted the score in the bottom half of the inning and then slowly pulled away, using an eight-run sixth inning to seal the 13-1 victory.
The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors voted Monday to approve an increase in salaries and fringe benefits for its management level employees.

RIDGWAY - A jury of 12 primaries and two alternates was selected in Elk County Court Monday to sit on the trial of a Ridgway man incarcerated on drug charges after police allegedly uncovered marijuana being grown on his property.
Donna Rae McGill, 68, of Willow Street, Johnsonburg, died early Monday, April 8, 2013 at home following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 3, 1945 in Ridgway daughter of the late Raymond and Florence (Rosetto) Blashock. She married James McGill on June 25, 1967, he survives.

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team put together a four-run first inning on Saturday and held on to win their home opener 6-1 over the visiting Brockway Lady Rovers in a contest played on a breezy but sunny afternoon at Benzinger Park.
