Thursday's meeting of the Jay Township Board of Supervisors included an update from a Pennsylvania Game Commission Officer on the agency's initiative to trap and remove elk from Weedville, viewed by some as a problem animal in the area.
The St. Marys City Council personnel committee, consisting of council members Dan Hepner, Ned Jacob and Greg Gebauer, along with City Manager Dave Greene, all met with a state representative in exploring grant opportunities to fund the city's personnel policy updates project.

RIDGWAY - Controversy looming over the planned introduction of an injection well in Highland Township informed much of the discussion at Tuesday's meeting of the Elk County Gas Task Force where presentations by representatives from environmental regulatory agencies focused on the role of injection wells in the disposal of wastewater from natural gas drilling.

A truck driver escaped injury Tuesday when the tractor-trailer he was operating flipped on James City Hill on Route 66 in Wetmore Township south of Kane.
Dozens of area residents, local officials and members of Elk County CARES [Citizens Advocating Responsible Environmental Stewardship] flooded the new township building located at 1537 Montmorenci Rd. during Tuesday's regular Ridgway Township Board of Supervisors meeting to express their concern over a Marcellus Shale gas extraction site located near the Ridgway Reservoir.

Jeffrey A. "Jeff" Sample, 61, of 148 School St., Kane, died on Monday, March 18, 2013 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1951 in Ridgway, son of the late John S. "Jack" and Carmella M. Allegretto Sample.
On May 14, 1982 he married Janis M. Redmond, who preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2011.
Mr. Sample was a resident of Kane for the past six years. He had formerly lived in Clearfield for five years and had lived in Rasselas. He was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1970.
Mary Ann Quagliani, 82, of 172 Burning Well Rd., Kane, and formerly of 110 Homestead Rd., Kersey, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Kane Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born April 5, 1930, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Fred and Martha Renwick Bayer. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools.
On June 27, 1959, in the Sacred heart Church, she married Isadore J. Quagliani. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1969.
Mrs. Quagliani was a member of the St. Boniface Church and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.
