JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg Mayor David Zilkofski reported on a fire that destroyed a 2-story apartment building in Johnsonburg during Monday afternoon's council meeting.
March 10th
Corporal Greg Agosti, a fire marshal for the Ridgway-based State Police, reported investigating a fire that occurred Sunday afternoon at 236 Blaine Ave. in Johnsonburg.
ERIE - Jury selection in the trial of Richard Allen Danz, 48, of St. Marys, federally indicted on charges of wire fraud and money laundering, will commence in federal court in Erie during the court term beginning May 6, 2013.
The St. Marys Neighborhood Girls Scouts are busy planning their upcoming trip to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park. The educational trip, taking place May 10-11, is open to all area scouts and their female family and friends as they tour the park, dine and sleep over in a battleship and visit Niagara Falls.
Margaret “Marge” Schaberl Forster, 99, a recent resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 979 Johnsonburg Rd., died on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the nursing home.Â
She was born on Nov. 26, 1913 in Daguscahonda in a boarding house run by her mother, Gertrude Schaberl.Â
On Oct. 10, 1935, she married the late Henry "Hank" Forster in St. Mary's Church, where they celebrated four very special anniversaries. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2002 after nearly 67 years of marriage.Â

Doris B. Hunger, 82, of Punxsutawney, died peacefully at home with her family on Thursday, March 7, 2013.
She was born July 25, 1930 in Summerville, the daughter of the late Donald and Sarah (Wayland) Burns. She was married to John B. Hunger Jr., who preceded her in death on July 20, 2002.
Mrs. Hunger and her husband owned and operated Hunger's Office Supply in Punxsutawney and the Hunger's Hallmark at the Groundhog Plaza.
ST. MARYS - A new program is in the works to offer low income students in the St. Marys Area School District access to pre-Kindergarten instruction, the only of its kind in the county.
The Fox Township Supervisors met in a brief executive session during their recently held regular monthly meeting.
As a result, Supervisor Mike Keller said they discussed negotiations to purchase property from Dinsmore Welding at the Industrial Park. The township has agreed to purchase the land, with Supervisor Randy Gradizzi to present the owner with the price to see if he agrees with the amount.
Supervisor Dave Mattiuz said a resident requested open gym hours at the Community Building. He said he believed this to be a good idea. The supervisors approved looking into the request.

With enrollment and revenue both in decline, expenditures on the rise and uncertainty surrounding the future of state funding all shaping discussions surrounding the district's budget, St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney presented the proposed budget for 2013-2014 to the board Thursday night.
Thursday's workshop meeting of the St. Marys Area Board of Directors included the announcement of two emergency drills to be held in district buildings during March.
