Helen R. Feile, 99, of 453 North Michael Street, St. Marys, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at the Pinecrest Manor after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 15, 1914 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Francis and Theresa Gabler Robinson. On Dec. 31, 1941 in the St. Maryâ€™s Church, she married Evard F. â€śEvâ€ť Feile, who preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1988.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. She was a former employee of Sylvania.
William J. "Big G" Grimone, 79, of 72 Erie Ave, Apt 106, St. Marys, formerly of Emporium, died at Christ the King Manor in DuBois on Monday Feb. 10, 2014.
He was born Jan. 4, 1935 in Emporium, a son of the late Leo and Ida Razey Grimone.
On April 7, 1956 in St. Mark Catholic Church, Emporium he married Margaret Kinsler Grimone, who survives.
In a 4-2 vote the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors approved a motion to utilize the
Pa. School Boards Association (PSBA) Executive Search Program for a new superintendent at a cost of $10,500. This action follows last week's announcement that current Superintendent Ann Kearney will retire at the conclusion of this school year.
Board members Bert Sorg and Bryan Chiappelli cast opposing votes.
A LERTA application was approved for the St. Marys Box Co., Inc. for the construction of a new building for additional manufacturing by the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors on Monday evening.
The estimated cost of the building is $1.6 million and will be located at 109 Jeep Rd. in St. Marys. It is slated to be completed in the spring.
According to local historian Ray Beimel, one of the unsung heroes in St. Marys' history is Captain Charles H. Volk.
Beimel discussed Volk's contribution to the community while passing by his grave during a recent tour of St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.Â
Volk was born in 1820 and died in 1871.
HUTCHINS â€“ A truck driver was killed about 6 p.m. Monday in a freak accident at the particleboard plant in Hutchins.
State Police from the Lantz Corners station are investigating the incident. They were not ready to release details Monday night.
McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill of Bradford was called to the scene. He also declined to release information Monday night pending the investigation.
