Pearle A. Meredith, 94, of 1274 Montmorenci Rd., died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Ridgway, daughter of the late Charles and Selma Nelson Holm. On June 22, 1945, she married Glenn R. Meredith who preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1995.
RIDGWAY â€“ Elk County Commissioners on Tuesday voted to approve a five-year deal with Zito Media for the purchase of a new phone system.
According to Jim Abbey, director of the county's IT department, the switchover will do wonders and provide a higher level of service.
"We decided we wanted to go with a voice over IP system and we'll be able to save money almost immediately," Abbey said. "The return on the investment will probably be about two years, two and a half years tops."
The current phone system utilized by the county recently hit its end-of-life date as well.
With over 41 years of artistry under his belt, Peter Winklbauer of St. Marys was presented with the Elk County Council of the Arts (ECCOTA) Lifetime Achievement award during the organization's annual gala held Saturday.
"That's one of our favorite parts of this event, being able to recognize individuals and organizations from throughout the area that have really been helping to promote and support the arts," said ECCOTA Executive Director Abbi Peters.
Two individuals and one local organization were honored on Saturday evening for their contributions to the arts in Elk County during the Elk County Council on the Arts (ECCOTA) annual gala.
The 2014 "Heart in the Arts" award recipients, all of whom were chosen by ECCOTA's Board of Directors and staff, were Elkwood Arts, Jason Phipps and Deborah Pontzer.
More overnight snow fell throughout Elk County as area residents again broke out the shovels.
Most of the county got at least three inches of snow throughout the night. There also was a freezing rain advisory for today from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Within the region, parts of Clearfield County saw more than four inches of snowfall overnight, weather which again caused issues on Interstate 80.
RIDGWAY â€“ The Elk County Courthouse is still on track to have a single point of entry starting March 1.
The commissioners reported on Tuesday that the only entrance available for use, which also is handicap-accessible, will be the door behind the building and in front of the Elk County Prison.
Pending official contract approval, Allied Barton Security Services will be providing the security at the courthouse.
RIDGWAY â€“ The Ridgway Area School Board of Directors on Tuesday night approved the renewal of superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien's contract for an additional five years. The contract is set to expire in June of 2019.
Board members Lucy Bobby and Aimee Kemick cast the negative votes with the other six members voting affirmatively.
