Theodore Lindenmuth

Theodore Lindenmuth, 76, of Ridgway, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys.
He was born Aug. 18, 1937 in Bigler Township, son of the late George W. and Catherine McDermott Lindenmuth.
His wife, Evelyn Edelfraud Schaffler Lindenmuth, who was originally from Augsburg, Germany, survives.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1969, and was a Vietnam era veteran. He was stationed abroad in Korea, Lebanon, and Germany, where he met his wife.

John A. Jeselnick

John A. Jeselnick, age 64, a resident of Naperville, Ill. since 1979, formerly of St. Marys, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Ill.
He was born March 9, 1949 in St. Marys.
John grew up in St. Marys as an altar boy, Eagle Scout, lifeguard, athlete and 1967 graduate of Elk County Christian High School. He received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Penn State University in State College, and his master's degree in industrial administration from Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind.

Crystal Fire Dept. struggles with lack of new members

Recruitment and retention continues to plague fire departments throughout the U.S. including the St. Marys Crystal Fire Department.
Fire Chief Bill Kraus reported this challenge along with overhauls he believes need to be made in training requirements during a recent St. Marys City Council meeting.
While the number of volunteer firefighters is declining, the age of volunteer firefighters is increasing. This is evident as the average age of CFD firefighters ranges from 40 to 50 years old, proving a need to recruit younger members.

Fire heavily damages St. Marys home

ST. MARYS – State Police fire marshal Corporal Greg Agosti conducted an investigation along with Crystal Fire Department and the St. Marys City Police Department regarding a Sunday night fire that heavily damaged a residence at 572 S. St. Marys St. in St. Marys.
The victim was Michael S. Murgash of St. Marys.

Confirmation students collect over $4,000 for Food Bank

For the past several years the Confirmation students from St. Marys' three Catholic parishes have held collections after each Mass during the same weekend as the Super Bowl. Known as 'Souper Bowl Sunday,' the proceeds from the annual event benefit the Christian Food Bank of St. Marys. This year's collection, which was held Feb. 1-2, saw $4,951 donated for the organization.

Bonis present chainsaw carving rendezvous history

On Monday morning, Liz and Rick Boni, founders of Ridgway's annual Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, gave a presentation on the history of the Rendezvous, from its humble beginnings in 1999 to the internationally-known event it has become in its fifteenth year.
