Cheryl M. Herzing

Cheryl M. Herzing, 57, of 111 Polk Ave., Ridgway, died unexpectedly Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2014 at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Feb. 16, 1956 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Robert G. and Joyce M. (Wehler) Vogt Sr. She married Daniel F. Herzing Jr. on Aug. 19, 1983.
She had resided in Ridgway since 1981 and was a former St. Marys resident. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, the C.D. of A., a past St. Leo's Bingo Chairman, the Ridgway Little League, the Rocket Cheerleaders and the RAHS Gymnastics Boosters, and was also the caretaker of Yolonda Jeselinick.

Sylvia J. Feldbauer

Sylvia J. Feldbauer, 70, of 317 Braun Rd., St. Marys, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 28, 1943 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Luke and Sara Jane Miles Schaberl.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1961. She was also a 1963 graduate of Ogden Nursing School in Elymira, N.Y., and a 1981 graduate of Syracuse University.
On Nov. 7, 1964 in the Queen of the World Church, she married Paul J. Feldbauer, who survives.

Ridgway logger injured in accident near Kane

A Ridgway logger was injured Friday in a work-related accident in the Allegheny National Forest near Kane.
Tim Holt, chief of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department, identified the victim as Tom Luchs. He is listed as the president of TMJ Logging of 25 Morgan Ave., Ridgway.
Luchs suffered a "severe leg injury," according to Mike Volpe, a Kane Emergycare ambulance paramedic.

Beimel details history of St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery

While it is not the only cemetery in St. Marys, St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery is the oldest and perhaps the most historically significant. St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery was founded in 1862 and is the final resting place for many of those who played a role in the community throughout its history. 

Fleming to perform national anthem at Super Bowl

Opera singer and Ridgway native Renee Fleming will be singing the national anthem at this year’s Super Bowl Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium. Fleming, now 54, spent her elementary school years in Ridgway before relocating to Rochester, N.Y.
Fleming is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Fleming, both music majors who graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
