One dead in Brandy Camp Road crash

FOX TWP. – One person died Friday afternoon in a fatal crash on Brandy Camp Road in the 600 block near Rebco, Inc.
Kathryn J. Moriarity, 31, of Ridgway, was killed when a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 59-year-old Olen L. Pritt, also of Ridgway, flipped as he attempted to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, according to reports released Friday night.
According to the Ridgway-based state police, the car started to spin in a clockwise direction and exited the right side of the roadway. The right front corner of the car struck an embankment, causing the car to overturn.

School board approves array of items

The St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors addressed several items during their recent meeting ranging from addressing road construction along state Route 255, cafeteria prices, changes in health care benefits and a grant award.
In regard to ongoing construction along SR 255, the South St. Marys Street Elementary School entrance, exit and yard will be excavated to replace the water line and again to replace the sewer line. The contractor will have the entrance/exit open for arrival and dismissal with work occurring from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SMAHS students celebrate Pi Day

March 14, or 3-14, is the date that corresponds with the first three digits of the irrational and transcendental number pi, and the day is often recognized as a holiday of sorts to honor the number. Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and its digits continue infinitely without repetition. In celebration of Pi Day, students at St. Marys Area High School held an assembly on Friday afternoon, using the occasion as a fundraiser as well as to enjoy pie-themed events such as a pie-eating contest and giving students the opportunity to pie some of their teachers.

Theresa M. "Daisy" DiNardo, 91, of 440 Center St., Johnsonburg, died on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born on July 30, 1922 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Rosario "Sam" and Rose Manno Mannella. On June 22, 1946 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, she married John J. DiNardo, who preceded her in death on July 5, 1980.
She resided in Johnsonburg all her life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1940.
