Education opportunities key for region

RIDGWAY – House Bill 1701 may be the answer to a lot of problems throughout the area.
The legislation aims to create a rural community college pilot program serving an 11-county region of northwest and north central Pennsylvania.
Its sister legislation, Senate Bill 1000, passed with flying colors, 42-4.
"We're not going to go out and build a lot of infrastructure, it's not about bricks and mortar," said Bob Esch, a McKean County industry representative for the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission's executive board of directors.

Animation brings students ideas to life

Students at St. Marys Catholic Elementary School let their imaginations run wild as they recently created various stop motion animation videos as part of a four-week artist in residency program.
Visiting artist Annie Schmitt of Box of Light Studios in Erie worked primarily with fifth-graders during their science, art and periodic reading classes as they incorporated their knowledge of the solar system into short videos.

Online classes available through OBTT

Online classes are currently being offered to all Pennsylvania residents through the Online Broadband and Technology Training [OBTT] program, sponsored through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development [DCED].
Enrollment in courses opened up in February of this year and all courses will tentatively be available until the end of 2014.

James A. Keneske

James A. Keneske, 89, of Long Level Road, Johnsonburg, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys after a short illness.
He was born Aug. 6, 1924 in Johnsonburg, son of the late James G. and Bernice M. King Keneske.
On July 18, 1953, he married Ellen R. Stubber who preceded him in death on June 2, 2002.
