City defends stormwater plan

The City of St. Marys continues to defend its stormwater management plan with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
On March 3, the city received a response from the DEP in reference to changes the city submitted as part of the Act 167 stormwater management plan ordinance in September.
City Solicitor Tom Wagner previously stated the city's draft ordinance is different from the Elk County Stormwater Plan, already approved by the DEP, because "it is more liberal in terms of exempting ordinary residential properties and having less stringent requirements on small construction."

Traffic, road problems continue to plague city

Members of St. Marys City Council have received numerous complaints regarding deteriorating road conditions on both state and local roads, most of which are due to construction or are weather related.
City Councilman Gary Anderson asked what PennDOT's reaction was to council's inquiring about road conditions at the intersection on State Street, Arch Street, Mill Street and Vine Road.

2 cows die in Fox Twp. barn fire

FOX TWP. – Two Holstein steer cows perished Saturday night in a Fox Township fire that destroyed a barn.
Elk Company 3 (Fox Township Fire Department) and Elk Company 5 (Jay Township Fire Department) responded at 8:32 p.m. to 615 Byrnedale Rd. in Fox Township along with Fox Township Ambulance. The property is owned by 66-year-old Edward J. Benevich of Weedville.
