IU9 budget contribution questioned

March 10, 2014

In a 5-3 vote the St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors voted to approve the Intermediate Unit Nine's (IU9) budget. Next year SMASD will contribute $162,688 to the IU9 budget which is an increase of $16,731 from the 2014-15 budget. This amount is determined by a formula established by the Pa. Department of Education (PDE).
"We were hoping for possibly a different calculation as to how it's determined that we pay our share because St. Marys consistently pays the lion's share of that budget and we just don't think that's fair," said Bob Luchini, SMASD school board president.
