Robert E. Hedberg, 73, of 459 Main St.., Kersey, died suddenly on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at his home.
He was born on March 19, 1941, a son of the late John and Evadna Ninnis Hedberg.
Bob was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of St. Boniface Church. He retired from Stackpole Carbon Company after many years of service.Â He was a member of the Fox Township Fire Department and the Dagus Mines Legion.Â He enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycle riding.
James L. Urbancic, 75, of 202 Badeau Rd., Kersey, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at the UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness.
He was born May 8, 1939 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Albert L. and Margaret E. Allinger Urbancic. On June 16, 1966 in Kersey, he married Mary Jane Johnson, who preceded him in death on May 24, 2011.
Mr. Urbancic was a graduate of St. Marys High School and attended Penn State University. He was a retired employee of Metaldyne. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
A year after holding their first pet photo contest to raise funds to benefit the Elk County Humane Society, St. Marys Dairy Queen is once again calling on area pet owners to submit photos of their pets enjoying a Dairy Queen treat.
This year's contest began on May 15 and will continue through June 10. Entries may be submitted at Dairy Queen, through the business' Facebook page, or via email at email@example.com.
A new guidance counselor position, gym renovations, playground work, paving bids and personnel matters were just some of the topics discussed during a recent St. Marys Area School District board of directors meeting.
The district is advertising for a guidance counselor position with K-12 certification with the building to be determined.
"Guidance counselors do a lot more than career counseling anymore," SMASD Superintendent Ann Kearney said.
