RIDGWAY â€“ Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, Pa. Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) and state Representative Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) were in town Tuesday morning and into the early afternoon to assess the flood damage that ravaged Ridgway last week.
Ridgway Borough Manager Kim Zimmerman and Ray Imhof, emergency coordinator for both Ridgway Borough and Township, and assistant fire chief, spoke Tuesday morning of the severity of the disaster during an emergency briefing downtown.
Valedictorian Anna VanEerden and Salutatorian Kennedy Weisner left their Elk County Catholic High School Class of 2014 classmates with encouraging sentiments and thoughtful memories during the school's commencement ceremony on Sunday afternoon.
VanEerden described the seniors as a class made of bright, dynamic, inspiring individuals who through "creating memories and sharing experiences has changed us all for the better."
JAY TWP. â€“Â This year's Memorial Day program at Mt. Zion Historical Park featured four different dedication ceremonies. A plaque honoring military members from Jay and Benezette Townships who were killed or missing in action was installed along the walkway, 39 new pavers were added to the walkway, a new citizen's plaque was installed, and two stone benches and adjacent plaques were added.
William J. Bankovic, 90, a resident of Elk Haven and formerly of Pittsburgh, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Elk Haven after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 6, 1924 in St. Marys, son of the late Walter and Eva Frkonja Bankovic. He was married to Elaine Mains of Pittsburgh.
