Bernard G. “Bernie” Meyer, Ph.D., 61, who helped educate two generations of students entering the field of criminal justice, died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at his home in Bradford after a brief illness.

With enrollment of nearly 630 students coupled with the increasing number of special education students, South St. Marys Street Elementary may soon have a new administrator on staff to continue to serve its students.
The St. Marys Area School District board of directors unanimously approved to advertise for an anticipated 10-month position at the school both internally and externally.

Armed robbery trial begins for Johnsonburg trio

RIDGWAY – A jury trial began Thursday morning at the Elk County Courthouse for three co-defendants accused of robbing a Johnsonburg home at gunpoint.
James Holding, 29, Angela Lynn Baker Williams, 34, and Kevin P. Williams, 37, all of Johnsonburg, are accused of entering an apartment designated 110 1/2 Harrison Ave., Johnsonburg. The alleged victims knew the defendants and allowed them inside. It is alleged that once inside the home, Holding and Kevin Williams held the occupants at gunpoint and stole approximately $350 in cash and all of their cell phones.
