BENEZETTE TWP. â€“ Two Bradford residents suffered major injuries Saturday evening on Homestead Drive near the Elk Country Visitor Center.
The crash occurred on at 7:28 p.m. as a 2013 BMW K1500 GTL motorcycle, operated by Daniel S. Hushon, 40, of Bradford, was traveling south on Homestead Drive. Hushon reportedly passed another vehicle and lost control of the motorcycle. It exited the roadway and both Hushon and a passenger, Ashley J. Beckwith, 30, also of Bradford, were thrown from the motorcycle.
It only took 54 years, but the Historical Society of St. Marys and Benzinger Township is finally operating out of a location owned by the organization.
Construction on the building began last year, the society's collection was moved to the new building earlier this year, and the society officially reopened on Sunday afternoon with a special open house from 1-4 p.m. During that time, members of the community were invited to come tour the new facility, which is located along Erie Avenue, and see what all it has to offer.
St. Marys Area High School Salutatorian Catherine Riddle and Valedictorian Amy Orr reflected on school memories while imparting hopes for future successes for the Class of 2014 during the school's recent commencement program.
"I would like to extend appreciation toward everyone who has helped mold us into the people we are today," Riddle began.
Valedictorian Amy Orr compared high school to a roller coaster filled with ups and downs involving schoolwork, jobs, sports or personal matters.
Mary H. Jacobs, 80, of 618 North Maple Ave., Ridgway, died Saturday afternoon, May 31, 2014 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 18, 1933 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Ben and Jennie (DeMucci) Marzella. She married William L. Jacobs on Feb. 12, 1955, and he survives.
She had resided in Ridgway all her life and was a 1953 graduate of St. Leo High School. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. Mary had been employed by Stackpole Carbon, the St. Marys Bakery, Cronk's Flowers and Fox's Pizza in Ridgway.
JoAnn S. Gnan, 71, of 518 Hickory St., Ridgway, died early Sunday morning, June 1, 2014 at Penn Highlands DuBois following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 24, 1943 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Emil F. and Nellie R. (Briggs) Streich.
She married Benjamin C. Gnan Jr. on Feb. 19, 1982, he survives.
She had resided in Ridgway all of her life and was a member of the American Legion Post #208. She was a 1961 graduate of Ridgway High School. She was a longtime employee of Alpha Sintered Metals, retiring in 2008.
