St. Marys majors defeat Elk County 13-10 in elimination game

It was a high scoring affair in District 10 Little League All-Star Major League baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Park as St. Marys and the Elk County team made up of players from Fox Township, Johnsonburg, and Ridgway battled to stay alive and continue to fight their way through the loser's bracket. The game featured an exciting back-and-forth battle that included seven home runs between both teams, and St. Marys ultimately emerged the victor by a score of 13-10.

Manager updates on needed pool repairs, trail project

Repairs to the St. Marys Community Pool and an update on the Rails to Trail project encompassed a portion of City Manager Dave Greene's regular activity report presented at a recent City Council meeting.
Greene met with Ken Wolfe from the St. Marys Recreation Board to review previous proposals and a feasibility study on Memorial Park's St. Marys Community Pool. He stated he has not reviewed the information since 2008.
The initial proposal put repairs at a cost of $4-$8 million. This included repairs to the bathhouse and completely demolishing and rebuilding the entire complex.

Inner Park Day sign-ups underway

Sign-ups are currently underway for this year's Inner Park Day at Memorial Park. The free event for children between the ages of 5-14 is scheduled for July 9 and will feature activities such as a pie eating contest, obstacle course, and hockey shoot. Participants must register by July 1 in order to receive a free Inner Park Day T-shirt; however, registration will continue until the morning of the event.

Matthew J. "Matt" Sprague, 30, of 235 West Center St., Johnsonburg, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 29, 1983, son of Lawrence "Larry" Sprague and Peggy Dickinson Sprague.
He graduated from Johnsonburg Area High High School in 2003 and resided in Johnsonburg all his life. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Central Hose Company, and was an avid Cinch player. He was a Walmart associate for 10 years.
