The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch and the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader soccer teams battled for 100 minutes Friday afternoon and evening at the SMAHS soccer field only to see the contest end in a 1-1 tie.
The wages and hours of Title 1 tutors was brought to the attention of the St. Marys Area School District board of directors during their latest workshop.
"Somewhere between cafeteria monitors and custodians are Title 1 tutors and it just seems to me that's out of balance," said Matt Quesenberry, school board member. "I was just curious how it is that we arrived at that per hour wage and if we feel that's compatible with the responsibilities that we expect of those people."
Currently custodians wages start at $10/hour whereas tutors make $9/hour
ST. MARYS â€“ Jeff Beimel, an engineer from St. Marys, tried his hand at being a farmer when he set out to grow a giant pumpkin that he would be able to enter into an annual competition for giant pumpkins in Altoona.
This year, Beimel was able to fulfill his goal after he grew a pumpkin large enough to enter into the competition in just his second year attempting to do so.
On Saturday, Oct. 4, Beimel, his pumpkin and multiple members of "Team Beimel" traveled to Altoona to have the pumpkin weighed at the Pennsylvania Giant Pumpkin Growers Association's annual weigh-in.
Gary J. Streich Sr., 77, of 4381 Grant Rd., Ridgway, died Thursday evening, Oct. 9, 2014 at his residence.
He was born April 28, 1937 in Ridgway, son of the late Woodrow T. and Emma M. (Amacher) Streich.
He married Linda E. Carlson on Sept. 5, 1959, and she preceded him in death May 22, 2014.
Kenneth E. Huber, 73, of Grove Street, Johnsonburg, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 9, 1940 in Johnsonburg, son of the late John and Elsie (Schenck) Huber. On July 19, 1964, he married Carolyn (Newman), and she survives. They just celebrated their 50th anniversary in July.
He was a member of the Johnsonburg Senior Center, Central Hose Co. and past member of Rolfe Sportsmenâ€™s. He enjoyed his daily walks and especially loved his time with his grandchildren.

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch tennis team played their final match of the season against crosstown rival Elk County Catholic on Thursday afternoon and came out on top 5-4.
Â Elk County Catholic boys soccer took advantage of a pair of chances and were able to take a 2-0 victory from Ridgway Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team saw their record slip to 8-4 on the season as they lost a 3-1 match to the Sheffield Lady Wolverines Thursday night at the SMAHS gym.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen entered Thursday afternoon's game against the Coudersport Falcons in need of a win. Despite their best efforts, they did not end up getting one; however, they did not end up with a loss either. Instead, the two teams battled to a 2-2 double overtime draw in a match played at the SMAHS soccer field.
